And the destruction of my childhood continues

Will Smith is co-producing a remake of Karate Kid with, predictably, his son as Daniel san. Negotiations are also on-going to cast Jackie Chan as Mister Miyagi. The theme will remain the same but the script will be re-written.

I'm really not sure what to think of this. The Karate Kid is one in a collection of timeless movies from the 80's that define my generation - with Ghost Busters, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Nightmare on Elm Street, Some Kind of Wonderful, and Lost Boys among others. It's a movie that I have seen hundreds of times yet would watch again if I happen to catch it while channel surfing. Somehow I just can't imagine a remake doing it justice. As much as I love Jackie Chan I don't believe he'll be able to pull off a Mister Miyagi convincingly. As for Will Smith's son, well...

last year, i saw a re-rendering of teenage mutant ninja turtles and he-man at Cartoon Network. my opinion: what was redeeming for superfriends to be justice league certainly isn't working on these two "improved" cartoons. Now, it's all actions and CGIs, gone are the wittisms and the after-story morales that marked the 80s animation.
as you said it, it marks the destruction of our childhood, or at least, of those who belong to our generation.

Thanks for posting this! Well I guess that's how Hollywood and the showbusiness works nowadays. It's kinda sad seeing the "classics" that defined our childhood being remade into some corny stuffs.

Maglilista pa sana ako ng mga favorite cartoons ko nung time nyo ni Bro. Utoy. Kaya lang nakita ko serious comment ni Bro. Utoy eh :)
Next time na laang.
